Asbestos not found in evacuated Wyoming hospital
Staff and patients of the Criminal Justice Service program at the Wyoming State Hospital at Evanston were evacuated from the Karn building in March due to fears of asbestos contamination caused by a renovation project. Insulation found by workers around some piping led to an investigation. Asbestos was found in ceiling tiles, but airborne contamination was not discovered. This is good news, since airborne asbestos fibers can cause serious illnesses like mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer, when they are inhaled.
Relocated staff and patients will stay in the new location until the renovation project is completed sometime next year.
